Shaun Pierson
Shaun Pierson navigates the complex dynamics of photography, examining power relations between photographer and subject.
Using photography as a narrative tool, he embraces its inherent unreliability and subjectivity to explore themes of queer desire, self-reflection, and the surreal essence of familiar landscapes. The camera’s presence in intimate moments provokes discomfort, challenging the direction of the gaze and delving into the interplay of control, vulnerability, and agency within the medium. Pierson constructs alternate realities, staging scenes in strangers' homes as both voyeur and participant and blurring the line between fact and fiction.
