Phyllis Yao
Phyllis Yao is a painter who renders everyday occurrences, relationships, observations, and sensations.
Yao builds imagined space in painting through drawing. From the whorl of her niece's hair to the Huangshan Mountains or the teachers' lounge, layered scenes depict webs of existence. Her wide-ranging imagery explores feelings of paranoia, love, hope, loneliness, and the anxiety of living in an ever-shifting world.
