Mariana Ramos Ortiz
Mariana Ramos Ortiz is an interdisciplinary artist who uses sand as a material to explore occupation, permanence, and protection within the context of Puerto Rico’s ongoing colonial realities.
Ramos Ortiz’s practice juxtaposes sand—its transience and shifting nature—with the more permanent colonial structures that have shaped Puerto Rican identity and experience. Through installation, sculpture, and other media, her work addresses issues of land ownership, displacement, and the struggle for autonomy.
