Danielle Gottesman
Danielle Gottesman is a multidisciplinary artist inspired by diverse visual languages like hieroglyphics, digital icons, architectural notations, and public information symbols.
Her creative process involves carving these symbols into hand-crafted objects, distorting their original meanings. At times she will translate them back into abstracted images through techniques like etching, photography, and video, emphasizing the adaptability of symbols and their potential for varied interpretations. Gottesman explores the human inclination for standardization and visual communication, questioning the pursuit of universal understanding. Referencing ISO 7001, she confronts the daily barrage of visual instructions, seeking to re-examine and rework standardized images to address deeper, unresolved themes in daily life, challenging coherence for ambiguity.
