Mark Joshua Epstein

Mark Joshua Epstein is an artist whose abstract sculptural paintings and works on paper engage the intersection of his Jewish and queer identities.

Epstein's current work is influenced by the visual culture of Jewish communities in 18th- and 19th-century Eastern Europe, namely intricately patterned papercuts and illuminated religious texts. Equally inspired by more recent visual culture, the artist also draws inspiration from the curvilinear forms of 1980s and 1990s laminate furniture, linked to his Polish-born Jewish grandfather’s furniture store on Long Island, which helped shape Epstein's early vision of a vibrant future.
