Shikeith

Shikeith is a multidisciplinary artist who critically examines the sociopolitical structures and historical narratives impacting the psychological landscapes of marginalized communities, with a primary focus on Black men.

Influenced by a childhood spent with a spiritual grandmother and the broader spiritual traditions of the African diaspora, Shikeith’s work embraces hauntology. This conceptual framework investigates how the past persists in contemporary society. Through sculpture, installations, performances, photographs, and films, Shikeith embarks on a journey to articulate a queer interpretation of hauntology, expressed through the language of materiality. This includes using expired film to metaphorically “raise the dead” and strategically incorporating the color blue to evoke nostalgia for a bygone era, bringing forth echoes from the past.
