Oscar yi Hou
Oscar yi Hou is a painter with an art practice that centers on a critical exploration of racial, sexual, and gender identity, from a queer, Asian diasporic perspective.
He employs a combination of figuration, language, iconography, and popular imagery, blending “Oriental” and “Western” symbols to challenge conventional notions of American identity and the complexity of what it means to be “American.” he portrays subjects as empowered through their queer masculinity and often touching on U.S. imperialism and transpacific history asking viewers to consider identity, representation, and cultural history in contemporary America.
