Kevin Umaña is a multidisciplinary artist whose recent work is a fusion of glazed ceramics and paintings on canvas, inspired by his memories from childhood of plants, community beaches, local cuisine, and religious experiences.
His work blends conflicting styles, such as order and mess, biomorphic and geometric shapes, and matte and sheen textures. Unconventional materials like gem minerals and sawdust often sourced from the locations that inspire them are incorporated into the works. Umaña’s creative process is intuitive, investigative, and unpredictable and is his vehicle for exploring the delicate balance between his role as a creator and the energy of the natural world.
