Jeane Cohen is a painter whose works are charged with immediacy and vitality.
Challenging the viewer to look closely, Cohen’s picture plane is the record of her process. Experimental and large-scale, Cohen’s recent works are high-energy compositions of churning bright colors and pictorial accumulations that move in and out of abstraction. Loosely collaged aspects of the paintings remain fresh and open. Gestures and marks unfold into atmospheric dream worlds that include natural forms, mythic creatures, and keyed up emotional imagery.
