Erin M. Riley
Erin M. Riley works with contemporary imagery sourced from social media, Google, and personal photographs to create largescale tapestries that leave nothing off limits.
She has depicted her own body, screenshots of pornography, and still lifes that feature bloody tampons, syringes, and random items pulled from the depths of a handbag. Pulling inspiration from the current historical moment, Riley’s recent work portrays scenes from the COVID-19 pandemic. Weaving images of everything from the refrigerator trucks that stood outside hospitals to scenes of human life moving even further online, her tapestries reflect on what it means to be in a body now.
