Cherrie Yu works with film, video, and choreography to reveal the ways in which the ordinary and the spectacular are often entangled.
Central to her practice is her study of human movement. In her film, Trisha and Homer, a solo by the American dancer Trisha Brown is juxtaposed with the mopping motion of the maintenance worker, Homero Muñoz, drawing a connection between art, labor, and movement. Working in collaboration with people who appear in her films—from artists of the past viewed through archival footage to people she encounters on the street—Yu develops meaning in shared time.
