Yevgeniya Baras

Yevgeniya Baras’s small, intimate paintings are constructed slowly over time.

The dense abstractions of saturated, nuanced color cover her canvases front and back in layers of thick and reworked paint, incorporating sewing, embroidery, and wood carving. The work is populated by Baras’ own taxonomy of symbols resulting from her investigation of both personal and world histories as well as her search for archetypal symbols that may be buried in the collective psyche.
