Steffani Jemison
Steffani Jemison uses time-based, photographic, and discursive platforms to examine African American vernacular culture in relationship to modernism and Conceptual practice.
She also organizes social and archival projects, exemplified by her collaboration with Jamal Cyrus at the New Museum, Alpha’s Bet Is Not Over Yet, an exhibition, reading room, and discussion space inspired by the politics of early 20th century African American periodical, and Promise Machine, a series of musical performances staged throughout MoMA’s galleries in conjunction with the exhibition One Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series and Other Works.
