Lisa Sigal
Utilizing and expanding upon notions of space, Lisa Sigal combines painting with architecture to investigate how art can challenge set ideas about property, containment, and freedom.
When she received a Guggenheim Grant and Creative Capital grant, she was inspired to produce public art projects on a larger scale and began to combine resources with other artists and activists. Her 2014 project, Home Court Crawl was created for Prospect New Orleans’ International Biennial. It is the first phase of Blights Out, an artist and community led initiative for the remediation of New Orleans with an emphasis on community-owned development.
In addition to her studio practice, Sigal is the curator of Open Sessions at The Drawing Center in New York City.
