Christian Maychack
Christian Maychack is deeply committed to the wavy line between painting and sculpture.
Comprised primarily of flat wall work, his ongoing series Compound Flatsembeds wooden structures in brightly pigmented epoxy clay. During this process, the two elements become conflated, erasing perceived hierarchies between functional physical space and abstract pictorial space. The resulting work hovers in a state of indeterminacy and paradox, between object and image, calling equally upon traditions of minimal sculpture and abstract painting.
