Osamu Kobayashi

Osamu Kobayashi’s abstract yet tangible paintings allude to landscapes, bodies, and objects.

His formally reductive work layers two, three, and sometimes four color blocks that foreground a single element and suggest a body or abstract subject placed on a plain color field. Employing playful, spontaneous colors and wide, sweeping brush strokes, Kobayashi creates gestural, whimsical worlds that are calculated to produce scenes that range from familiar architectural spaces to imaginary, impossible dimensions.
