Letha Wilson

In Letha Wilson’s photo-based works, landscape photography as a genre is approached with equal parts reverence and skepticism.

The ability for a photograph to transport the viewer is both called upon and questioned as her sculptural interventions attempt to compensate for the photograph’s failure to encompass the physical site it represents. Recent works incorporate concrete and cement alongside and on top of photographs as a foil, partner, or segue from the image of the photograph into the physical world. These pieces break down the preciousness of a photograph into a material presence. The works similarly straddle both the plastic and medium-specific world of photography, and the natural spaces represented within them.
