Jo Nigoghossian

Using steel, light and rubber, Jo Nigoghossian’s work is based on manipulating rules that dictate space and govern activities of conformity and disobedience.

“I believe in confronting difficult processes to expose struggles with materials and relationships in the world.” Her work shape shifts from structural to gestural, from moving creature to ornament, as the object is made to move away from and into itself, impulses retracting. Currently Nigoghossian is interested in tables and the interactive space around them, where an array of surfaces combine, begging to be destabilized. The table is a mecca of fragile states and shifting orders, temperaments, and confrontations that endure human intervention, often debased, cleared, cleaned, and acted on.
