Kathia St. Hilaire

Kathia St. Hilaire is an artist that draws inspiration from her experiences growing up in Carribean and African American neighborhoods and explores the relationships between materials, locations, and culture.

St. Hilaire’s visual language is defined by the ornate, textured surfaces of linoleum panels sewn together in a quilt-like fashion. While referencing Western art for historical constructions, she centers her work in Afro-Haitian culture with icononography specific to the Black diaspora.
