Sun You

Sun You makes sculptures and paintings by delicately assembling together common craft materials, office supplies, sewing notions, and household objects.

She balances safety pins, brightly-colored thread, beads, eyelash extensions, sewing needles, paper clips, and more to create stabiles, wall sculptures, and colorful abstract paintings. Her compositions are playful and light, but also challenge common ideas about the hierarchy between fine art and craft, household and professional labor. You’s balanced wire sculptures and dainty miniatures channel Alexander Calder’s circus and Richard Tuttle’s delightful wall sculptures, while pressing into new colorful territory.
