Brandi Twilley

Brandi Twilley creates paintings and drawings that are inspired by her formative experiences in her hometown of Oklahoma City.

Her artworks are populated by characters from childhood sketchbooks, artifacts from nearby construction sites, and scenes from her parents’ home, which tragically burned down in 1999. Beginning with the memory of a single object, person, or moment, her paintings develop unplanned, layering many thin glazes to achieve a darker hue. Twilley’s paintings evoke how our memories shift and change in color, and our futile attempts to reconstruct places and times that no longer exist. Her work resembles an archaeological reconstruction, combining old photos and ephemera and collecting the details of her past – of what she remembers of her home before the fire, and things remembered in dreams.
